Intimate Partner Violence

Have I been the victim of IPV?
It can be difficult to understand if what you experienced could be termed Intimate Partner Violence. This explanation may help you make sense of your situation. If you like we can help you talk this through.

What is Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
This is the formal term these days for violence in relationships.  It is also often termed spousal abuse, "wife beating", family violence and other words. The traditional view of IPV is that of a male (husband) physically abusing a female (wife).

Gender & IPV
We know that IPV has nothing to do with gender. IPV takes place in relationships of all genders. Any one person regardless of gender can be abusive to their partner also regardless of gender.

What kinds of abuse are called IPV?
IPV can include:
Physical assaults
Sexual assault
Emotional abuse
Verbal abuse
Financial control
