Your peer supporter has a shared lived experience of male sexual abuse, child abuse or other trauma. Each man’s experience of abuse, trauma and recovery is unique but you will have walked a similar path. Peer support for male survivors is person-centred and underpinned by strength-based philosophies. The life experience of the peer-support-worker creates common ground from which the trust relationship with the person is formed.
Empowerment, empathy, hope and choice along with mutuality are the main drivers in peer support work. There is a great deal of strength gained from knowing someone who has walked where you are walking and now has a life of their choosing.
Are peer workers trained ? All Peer Support Workers are fully trained and Certified. Training includes our own certified Trauma Intervention training and IPS ( Intentional Peer Support ) training courses.
