At Trauma Recovery we understand the difficult position many younger people find themselves in today. Statistics show that youth are particularly vulnerable in the areas of mental health, risk of suicide and problematic substance use. Additionally, young people today are having to cope with a new set of existential crises that for many are particularly anxiety provoking.
Young people means those who have become independent in their living situation, or are still at school. We understand the value of youth assisting other youth, where younger people with skills and experience in working with trauma are best suited to understanding and relating with those younger people who are currently struggling. This is why we are creating a youth focused programme, with dedicated support groups assisted by younger support workers. While it is difficult to reach out and show up for help, we hope to make this as easy as possible. We aim to be welcoming, inclusive, and for participation in our youth group to be as involved or relaxed as best suits the needs of the individual. Coming to our youth group should reduce difficulty for younger people, not increase it!
