What is Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) This is the formal term these days for violence in relationships. It is also often termed Family Violence, spousal abuse, "wife beating", and other terms. The traditional view of IPV has been that of a male (husband) physically abusing a female (wife), but understanding has shifted.
Gender & IPV We know that IPV has nothing to do with gender. IPV takes place in relationships of all genders. Any one person regardless of gender can be abusive to their partner also regardless of gender.
What kinds of abuse are called IPV? IPV can include:
